Sugarman Law wins $1,000,000 settlement against New Jersey nursing home for woman attacked and killed by violent resident

A year and a half after the death of *SAF*, after being told that she “fell” at the nursing home suffering a fatal injury, her grieving family was still searching for answers. How and why could something like this happen? They sought help from the nursing home abuse litigation team at Sugarman Law.

We carefully investigated this tragedy, obtaining nursing home records and witness statements given in the hours immediately after the “fall.” Sugarman Law found out it wasn’t a fall at all – SAF was attacked by another facility resident who had assaulted residents and the facility staff in the past. We learned that this entire incident, SAF’s injuries and death, could have and should have been avoided.

After filing our client’s lawsuit and obtaining expert reports regarding the nursing home’s fault for the attack and SAF’s injuries and death, we obtained a $1,000,000 settlement against the defendant nursing facility.

Unfortunately, nursing home abuse and neglect happens more than we all think. While sometimes our loved ones become ill or develop condtions because of age when in nursing homes, many times it is because of poor care, care that doesn’t comply with the law or New Jersey’s Nursing Home Responsibilities and Resident’s Rights Act.

If your family or loved one has been injured or lost their lives to nursing home abuse or neglect, if “it shouldn’t have happened,” call us at 866-657-5660, and let us help. At Sugarman Law we “Help Everyday People, Every Day.”
